Rev. Dewey Shaffer - Associate Minister

Rev. Dewey has come to us from a vast background of ministry settings.  He graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene College in Mt. Vernon, Ohio with his Bachelor's in Religious Studies/Philosophy.  Upon graduation, he began his seminary studies at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio.  He graduated in 1991 with a Masters in Biblical Studies/Leadership.  He has pastored two churches in Ohio, planted a church in Missouri, served as Habitat for Humanity Director, jumpstarted a Christian camp, and pastored a church in Oklahoma before joining our staff.  Rev. Dewey currently serves on the newly formed Durant Community Theatre Board and is active in several organizations around Durant.  With three grand children, one step-grandson, and one on the way, he values family.  His ministry gifts compliment the team at First United Methodist.  He will be working with adult ministry, as well as working with the educational needs of the church.  He is happy to minister God's grace to all.

Aaron Adair - Director of Traditional Music

Dr. Aaron Adair is Director of Music Ministries at FUMC.  In addition to working with the Chancel Choir and Cross and Flame Handbell Choir, he is Director of Theatre and Musical Theatre Coordinator at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  Dr. Adair has directed choirs at First United Methodist Church in Atoka, Oklahoma, First Presbyterian Church in Denison, Texas, First Presbyterian Church in Commerce, Texas, and most recently was substitute choir director at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas.  He has degrees in music and theatre from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Texas A&M University-Commerce, and has a Ph.D. in Humanities – Aesthetic Studies from The University of Texas at Dallas.  He and his wife,Diana,have one son, Collin, and they are excited to be part of FUMC and its many ministries in Durant and Bryan County.

Margie is usually the first person you encounter at First United Methodist Church.  She comes with energy, background, and a spirit to tackle anything.  Make sure you stop in and welcome her to our staff.
